Tips for a Better Immune System this Spring

As the world is facing an unprecedented event with the spread of COVID-19, it’s important to keep our immune systems going strong, know the facts and stay calm.  When we normally enter Spring, it's generally a good time because you've finally nailed your work/school + gym schedule and spring sports are about to begin.  The dangers of feeling run-down because of burn out, the seasons have changed or allergies -- is no fun for anyone.

Sometimes a stressful week, combined with a lowered immune system (or worse yet, a flu virus or the Coronavirus threat) can set our training back by a week or more.

We came up with 5 General Wellness Tips to stay healthy this Spring and all year round!  (This is not medical advice, always consult a medical professional.)

1. RECOVERY

Stay home and start off with some extra natural rest.  It sounds too obvious, but sleep is a weapon, and going to bed early and giving your body extra hours of sleep can do wonders.  Pop in a Recovery Guard for extra relief from jaw tension and grinding, especially if you know your jaw has a mind of its own while you sleep or you’re anxious about being quarantined.

2. SUPPORT & DETOX

After you’ve rested, nothing beats a healthy meal and lots of water to support your system.  When you feel ready to detox and get active, be gentle with yourself. Once you’re feeling back to normal, you can yoga stretch, roll or build up a light sweat.   Plus you’ll feel like a Champ for showing your body who’s boss.

3. OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

If you’ve recently had a moderate or major cold or flu episode, you may want to re-order a fresh new guard.  We know you like (sometimes love) your current guard, so why change a good thing, right?  We get it.  But a brand new mouthguard at the start of every sporting season is recommended anyway.  Plus, it's super easy to re-order online without having to leave your house.

4. DON’T TOUCH

The basic rules to staying healthy are Do Not Touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, before and right after you've trained.  We’ve had countless people tell us that our guards fit so tight that they often forget they are wearing them, even when their training session is done!

5. STAY SAFE ON THE GO & STAY ACTIVE

Everyone is freaking out because hand sanitizer is selling out everywhere. Did you know that you can DIY and make it at home?  Just add ⅔ cup rubbing alcohol with ⅓ cup aloe vera gel.  You can also add a few drops of essential oil for a natural scent.

Social distancing will help to lower the rate of spreading, and now is the perfect time to challenge yourself to some at-home gym exercises.

If we all take precautions to protect our health, we all win.  Visit your health provider for a diagnosis if you are feeling any symptoms at all and follow their medical advice.

We are working to safeguard our employees and customers during this time by being extra vigilant.  Our thoughts go out to any and all athletes impacted so far, and we hope to see you all out on the field soon.

In good health and solidarity,
